The Lassie and the White Bear, from the tale "East of the Sun, West of the Moon." It's also my tribute to Danish illustrator Kay Nielsen, whose work inspired me before I could read. This piece was sculpted in "Premier" air dry clay, and stands about 14 inches to the top of the girl's head.
You are a master!
I remember this Kay Nielsen illustration, and this is a gorgeous rendering of the simple, stylized image in three dimensions. Your sculpture has a wonderful feeling of motion, of pushing forward into the wind, and you have captured the elegant contrast between the delicate vertical of the girl - looking vulnerable, but also proud and brave - and the powerful rounded bulk of the white bear. The piece is very nicely lit and photographed, as well: the solid black backdrop sets the pale figures of the girl and bear off to perfect effect.
I love love that tale *-*
Absolutely lovely. Fine tribute to Nielsen.

Dramatic and beautiful, it's my favorite fairytale for a reason.
Makes me want to reread East, by Edith Pattou. It is based on the tale "East of the Sun, West of the Moon", and it is amazing.
Love the art deco feel of this one.
Hi, I don't know how old this post is, but this was my favourite fairy tale as a little girl. I would love to have this. I mean, I really would. I know you probabloy don't sell your work, but I would pay anything to have this model. Do you make copies? Please let me know, it's beautiful.
Just incredible... This is one of the best things I've ever seen. Well done.
so delicate and beautiful
the compositional dynamics of this piece wonderfully embodies the original source, but also exquisitely interprets the intricacy and flow of kay nielsen's work while embracing a uniqueness of vision beautifully your own. i, like you was exposed in nielsen's work before i found words, and i must say bravo. this is perfection.
Beautiful. You can feel the wind that they're walking into.

Beautiful work, I love this story.
It honestly looks like there's a gossamer cloth blowing over the entire stature, with the center in the bears' face. The effect is beautiful!
stunningly beautiful, and from one of my favorite stories too <3
